Barbra Streisand Tickets

Barbara Joan Streisand emerged from off-off-Broadway and club gigs to become one of the most honored female artists in film, theatre, and music today. Those humble beginnings mostly included singing in New York clubs and an appearing short lived theatre productions. One club appearance earned her inaugural television appearance on The Tonight Show during the Jack Paar years. After appearing a number of times on a evening radio showcase hosted by Mike Wallace called PM East/PM West, she would earn her big break on Broadway. That break was the supporting role of Miss Marmelstein in the 1962 production of I Can Get It for You Wholesale. The play was not a runaway success, but Streisand earned quite a bit of notice. This lead to her breakout role in the 1964 musical Funny Girl, where she headlined as Fanny Brice. The role would turn Streisand into an overnight sensation, shortly gracing the cover of Time magazine and appearing in her own television specials.

Streisand's singing career blossomed with her success on Broadway, and many of her early albums were focused on classics from the theatre. It would be nearly a decade before she transitiond into more traditional pop territory with 1971's Stoney End. While she had moved from the stage to film, her musical career was never neglected. Over the course of the 70s, Streisand would become one of the most popular recording artists of all time, male or female. Many of her hits originated from her films, such as "Evergreen" (A Star is Born), and "The Way We Were".

Streisand's success on the pop charts peaked in 1980 with the album Guilty. Written by the Bee Gee's Barry Gibb, the album went Platinum five times and topped almost all the US and international charts. "Woman in Love", the first single from the album, became Streisand's biggest career hit. The title track earned Streisand and Gibb a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Performance - Duo or Group.

After tremendous success with pop, Streisand returned to her Broadway roots in 1985 with The Broadway Album. The album went Platinum four times in the US and spawned a couple of big hits from the covered classics. It would earn Streisand her eighth Best Female Vocalist Grammy. Subsequently her album releases became fewer and further between as her focus shifted to her film career.

One thing Streisand had not particularly been noted for was touring. This changed in the early 1990's, when she embarked on one of her first tours in over 27 years. The series of concerts, dubbed "The Music Event of the Century" by Time, quickly sold out and earned Streisand a new accolade: highest-paid concert performer in history. Filmed by HBO, Barbra Streisand: The Concert, earned five Emmys and a Peabody Award.

Streisand's varied interests do not leave her as much time for touring as many artists, so when she does hit the road, it is a big event. Her tours over the past couple decades have routinely been top earners. Any opportunity to see this legend in concert shouldn't be missed. No matter how big the venue, it's a certain sell-out with Streisand headlining. Don't miss your chance to see her in concert.
