Belly is the name of an award winning Palestinian-born rapper, songwriter, singer ad producer from Canadian. Belly won a variety of awards for his music, including Juno Awards and 3 Much Music Video Awards. Belly has written a variety of platinum and gold hit songs for other artists as a songwriter. Outside of his own music, Belly has written songs for The Weeknd and co-wrote Beyonce’s “6 Inch”, which also features The Weeknd and was nominated for an Emmy Award. Belly also won the Songwriter of the Year Award at the 2016 Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada Awards for his significant and outstanding contributions to popular music over the past year. Belly’s first single was released in 2007, titled “Pressure” and featuring Ginuwine, which peaked at the number ten position on the Canadian CHR chart for radio singles. Belly’s second single, “Don’t Be Shy”, was also released in 2007 and featured Nina Sky, followed by the music video for “History of Violence”, which was directed by Martin Verigin and Jeffrey Hagerman. During the 2007 NHL Playoffs, Belly put out a single titled “Bandwagon” in support of the Ottawa Senators, later re-releasing a second version of the song featuring the Ottawa Senators’ goaltender, Ray Emery.
Belly’s debut studio album came out later in 2007, titled The Revolution. The double disc record came in two segments: The People and The System. The People contained more in depth songs, such as "History of Violence", which was produced by Whosane?, "Follow Me", "Revolutionary", "People Change", and "Leave Me Alone". The second part of the album, The System, contained his hit singles "Don't Be Shy", "Ridin'", and "Pressure". Belly’s debut album went on to achieve certified gold status and won the 2008 Juno Award for Rap Recording of the Year, while the singles from The Revolution won two Much Music Video Awards for Best Rap Video, including "Pressure” and "Ridin'". It wasn’t until 2015 that Belly released his second studio album, Up For Days. After signing to Roc Nation – Jay Z’s record label – Belly released his third studio album in 2016 titled Another Day in Paradise and launched a tour in support of the album.
