BIG BOI
Antwan Andre Patton, better known by his stage name of Big Boi, was born in Savannah , Georgia, in 1975 and would pursue his interests in music by attending Tri-Cities High School, a school of visual and performing arts outside of Atlanta. It was there that Patton would meet up with Andre "3000" Benjamin, and the two would find immediate musical chemistry and would go on to form the highly-successful group, OutKast. The duo signed with LaFace Records in the early 1990s and released Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik in 1994. The record's first single, "Player's Ball" would climb to No. 37 on the pop charts and bring about a new brand of Atlanta hip-hop.

As the '90s wore on, OutKast became even bigger superstars, obtaining their first No. 1 single on the national R&B charts with "Elevators (me & You)" off the album, ATLiens. The group's third album, Aquemini, was nominated for a Grammy and would climb all the way to No. 2 on the pop charts. The record featured such hits as "Rosa Parks" and "Synthesizer" and would display a new brand of upbeat hip-hop that made the group so popular. In 1999, OutKast released perhaps their biggest album to-date, Stankonia. Featuring the No. 2 pop hit "Ms. Jackson," the album was the most critically-acclaimed release thus far for the group and garnered them awards and strong record sales.

The group released a dual album, Speakerboxx/The Love Below, in 2003, which would sell millions of copies and net the group that year's Grammy Award for Album of the Year. The dual album would clearly illustrate the diverging paths that both artists were taking musically, and while there was no ill will toward one another, both Andre 3000 and Big Boi took the pinnacle of their musical careers to pursue a wide range of solo projects.

Throughout the mid-2000s, Big Boi would work with a variety of collaborators, including Missy Elliott, Beyonce, Jay-Z, Sleepy Brown, Trick Daddy and many more artists on a series of tracks. Big Boi would have a successful solo single in 2005 with "Kryptonite (I'm On It), but mainly stuck with collaborative roles. In 2007, Big Boi released his first full-fledged solo album, Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty. In 2012, Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors was released, showcasing just how far Big Boi had come as an artist and producer, with many more surprises left yet to come.
