Blink 182 is one of the preeminent pop punk bands of the 1990’s. Formed in the greater San Diego area in 1992, Blink 182 originally consisted of friends Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Scott Raynor. The trio wrote and recorded the band’s first two studio records titled “Chesire Cat,” and “Dude Ranch.” Both albums were hits among the youth around Southern California and quickly spread nationwide. Blink 182 became synonymous with a complete disregard for the establishment, and created a sound that mixed ranging teenage pop melodies with the fast hard hooks that are known in punk music, to help push the genre of pop punk to new heights. While Blink 182’s initial two albums were hits, it wasn’t until their 3rd album that they started garnering critical acclaim. In 1998, Tom and Mark replaced Scott Raynor with drummer Travis Barker, who brought with him a unique and unrealized percussion potential. A year later, Blink released their 3rd album titled “Enema of the State.” The release earned the band numerous MTV music awards, as well as acclaim by many of the mainstream media outlets. Enema of the State included hits such as “All the Small Things,” “What’s my age again?,” and “Adam’s song.”
Following their 1999 album, Blink 182 began playing in front of mostly sold out crowds, and became known for their high energy tours. Blink 182 would release their two most influential albums in the coming years, with “Take off Your Pants and Jacket,” in 2001, and “Blink 182,” in 2003. The two albums included hit songs like, “Stay together for the kids,” “Roller Coaster,” “Miss You,” and “Feeling This.” The two albums represented a major change for Blink 182, who evolved from writing songs with crude, joke themes, to touching on darker, more sentimental topics, while maintaining an attitude of never taking themselves seriously. In late 2005, Blink 182 broke up following the exodus of front man Tom DeLonge from the band. The trio reuineted in 2009, and released the album “Neighborhoods,” in 2011. Blink 182 remains one of the most influential pop punk bands from the turn of the century, and have seen tickets sell out for over two decades worth of tours.
