Brand New is an alternative rock band from New York that rose to prominence in the early 2000’s. Formed by teenage friends Jesse Lacey, Garrett Tierney, Brian Lane, and Vinny Accardi, Brand New quickly became known for their witty lyrics, and emotional themes. Brand New was formed in 2000, and released their debut album a year later, titled, “Your Favorite Weapon.”Your Favorite Weapon focused much of its attention on the band’s high school years, with songs written about high school breakups, teenage angst, and rising to adulthood in the new millennium. The album was a quick success for Brand New, selling over 50,000 copies in the first two years. In 2003, Brand New would release their 2nd studio album, titled “Deja Entendu.” Deja Entendu was decidedly more mature than the band’s initial offering, with songs written during the band’s two years on the road following Your Favorite Weapon. Deja Entendu included hits like “The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows,” and “Sic Transit Gloria Fades.” Both would gain viral success, appearing on VH1, and MTV. The release of Deja Entendu pushed Brand New into a new level of success, driving acclaim for lyricist Jesse Lacey, and guitarist Vinny Accardi.
In 2005, Brand New released their 3rd album, The Devil and God are Raging Inside of Me.”The album continued the band’s movement into darker themes, focused on religion, addiction, and loss. Two singles, “Sowing Season,”and “Jesus Christ,”were released along with the album. Brand New continued to tour year after year, focusing on intimate venues in North America. Brand New tours became known for their high energy, and lengthy performances. A 4th Brand New album would be released in 2008, titled “Daisy.”
