Brian Wilson is a singer, songwriter, arranger and producer from California. He is best known for his contribution as a singer, songwriter, and producer for the band The Beach Boys. Brian has also produced numerous number one singles and gold albums. In 1988 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and has won two Grammy Awards. Brian is still working on new material and on tour across the United States promoting his most recent album, No Pier Pressure and the film Love & Mercy. Brian Wilson tickets can still be found for his upcoming shows.
Brian Wilson was born on June 20, 1942 in Inglewood, California. His interest in music began at a young age and continued through high school and into college. In the summer of 1961 he formed a band with his brothers, Carl and Dennis, as well as Mike Love and La Jardine called The Pendletones. They later signed with Capitol and had their name changed to the Beach Boys. Brian started producing with their first album, as well as performing with the band and writing much of their material. During this time he also worked with other groups as a producer.
Brian suffered a nervous breakdown during tour in 1964, and he stopped performing live with the group in order to focus on writing and production. This was the beginning of many problems with his mental health that has spanned most of his career. In 1966, Wilson released the album Pet Sounds. Because of the revolutionary recording techniques used, the album was released with critical success, even though sales were not as high as previous Beach Boys albums.
As Brian Wilson’s battle with mental illness began to affect his personal life over the years, he was still able to produce music with the Beach Boys, other bands and artists, and his own solo material. His first solo album Love and Mercy was released in 1988. In 1999 Brian went on his first solo tour, and has been touring and releasing material ever since.
