Childish Gambino is the rap persona of multi-talented artist Donald Glover. Donald Glover became well known in the middle 2000’s, as a writer for the hit TV series 30 Rock. Glover wrote and occasionally made cameos on the iconic show. After becoming known for writing, acting, and his comedy, Glover turned his attention to music. In 2011, Glover performed at Bonnaroo under the stage name Childish Gambino. Prior to his debut performance at Bonnaroo, Gambino released multiple EP’s, including “I am Just a Rapper” “I am Just a Rapper 2” and “Culdesac”, which he released free for download on the internet. Later in 2012, Gambino released his first studio album titled Camp. Camp was released with the single “Bonfire,” which quickly took the rap community by storm, propelling Donald Glovers rap career to par with his comedy, writing and acting.
Camp received positive reviews and spoke about many of Donald Glover’s childhood struggles with poverty, relocation, and identity. The album broke into a true biography of the artist and was received as an honest, and open portrayal of self-loathing, struggles, and overcoming. Following the release of Camp, Childish Gambino toured in what was known as the “IAMDONALD,” tour. Childish Gambino was on the stage and his performances became characterized for their high energy and crowd control. In late 2013, Childish Gambino released his 2nd full length album titled “Because the Internet.” The album included collaborations with Chance the Rapper, Azealia Banks, and Gambino’s longtime producer Ludwig Goransson. The trio of Cudesac, Camp, and Because the Internet has been one of the strongest rap debut’s of this generation and fans have flocked to Childish Gambino shows.
