Few other places are quite so conducive to fostering a smooth, surf pop sound than California. No coincidence then that Colbie Caillat hails from the Golden State. The child of Ken Caillat, who co-produced Fleetwood Mac's Rumours and Tusk albums, she had a strong musical pedigree. Having been rejected by American Idol twice, the younger Caillat made her own way to musical stardom.
That path included MySpace, where she eventually became one of music's hottest unsigned acts by 2006. She did not remain unsigned for long after that, choosing to sign with Universal Republic for the creative freedom they offered.
The second time American Idol rejected her, she sang what was to become her first hit: "Bubbly." The song would reach #1 on the US Adult Top 40 and be certified Platinum. "Bubbly" was the debut single from her first album, Coco, which reached #5 in the US and spawned two more hit singles.
Caillat's follow-up, Breakthrough, arrived two years later, and would earn her a Grammy nomination as well as 2 more hit singles. Not bad for an album written over a three week stretch in a beach house in Hawaii with Kara DioGuardi and Jason Reeves. Those song writing talents were recognized by BMI in 2010, naming her Songwriter of the Year.
2011 welcomed the release of Caillat's third album, All of You, which peaked at #6 in the US. Colbie has toured regularly since 2008, with fun summer dates that suit her surf pop senseabilities A welcome mix of mature pop and folk, her concerts are an upbeat experience that is not to be missed.
