Jason Isbell, the American singer, songwriter and guitarist, is a former member of the band Drive-By Truckers from 2001 to 2007, however, he is best known for his solo career. As a teenager, Jason Isbell submitted his demos to various record companies and eventually landed a deal with FAME Studios when he turned 21. He joined Drive-By Truckers soon after. With Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell toured extensively with the band and contributed to many of their songs in addition to being featured in the bands documentary, The Secret to a Happy Ending. Jason Isbell announced that he would be leaving Drive-By Truckers in 2007 and would form a new band, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit shortly after.
With The 400 Unit, Jason Isbell released the album Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit in 2009 with Lightning Records. Their lead song from the album, “Alabama Pines”, won the 2012 Song of the Year from the Americana Music Awards. Jason Isbell’s a solo album was released in 2013 titled Southeastern. With the release of Southeastern, Jason Isbell went on to win the 2014 Americana Music Awards for Album of the Year, Artist of the Year, and Song of the Year for “Cover Me Up”. Jason Isbell’s follow up to Southeastern was released in 2015, titled Something More Then Free on Southeastern Records. Jason Isbell toured extensively in support of the album’s release, selling out venues across the U.S. Something More Than Free became a breakout album in many ways, debuting at the top of the Billboard charts for rock, folk and country.
