Martina Mariea Schiff grew up singing in Sharon, Kansas, eventually performing in a band with her father called the The Schiffters. After a brief detour through a rock band in Wichita, the young Ms. Schiff met and married John McBride. As the newly minted Martina McBride, she and her husband followed the path of many a would-be country music star by moving to Nashville.

This particular Nashville story ends quite happily for Martina McBride. Her husband, a studio engineer, found work with Garth Brooks' sound crew. Brooks offered Martina the opportunity to open for him if she could land a record deal, and, with her husband's help, she did just that.

McBride's debut album, The Time as Come, featured a more classic country sound. While not a runaway success, it peaked at 49 on the US Country charts and spawned three singles. Returning to the studio, McBride went to work on a follow-up that would arrive just over a year later.

The Way That I Am earned McBride her first top 5 hit, the single "My Baby Loves Me". Eventually certified Platinum, the album's more modern country sound helped put her on a path to becoming one of country's biggest female artists. It did not take her long to arrive.

Released in 1995, Wild Angels was her most successful album to date and the title track landed McBride her first #1 single. McBride's popularity only increased, as she, like a number of her contemporaries, began to mix more pop into her albums. The aptly titled album Evolution landed not only on the Country charts, but peaked at 24 on the Billboard 200. Singles from Evolution's follow-up, Emotion, appeared both on the Country and Adult Contemporary charts.

McBride's success continued in the 2000s, where she enjoyed a string of hit country-pop albums and tested the waters of television by appearing as a guest judge on Canadian Idol. She branched out into song writing with her 2007 album, Waking Up Laughing, co-writing 2 tracks.

Between touring and recording, McBride has found time for more reality TV as well as charity work. Her powerful voice can fill arenas around the world with fans. A four time CMA Female Vocalist of the Year, her legacy as one of country music's biggest stars is well established. Don't miss her friendly blend of country and pop when she's touring near you.
