The Cranberries are an alternative rock band from Ireland. They have been prominent figures of Irish rock music for over two and a half decades, and incorporate punk and folk music into their unique style. After advertizing for a female singer specifically, Dolores O’Riordan answered, and was hired after the band were impressed by her songwriting and delivery. The band recorded demos and sent them to record companies all over the UK. The demos were heard by the UK press and record industry types, which led to many record companies offering better and better deals. The Cranberries eventually decided to sign with Island Records.

After a rocky beginning, and some subpar recordings, the band regrouped with new management to begin recording their debut album. They promoted their music with small tours and appearances on mainstream radio and television over Britain and Ireland. MTV also became aware of the band, and started promoting their videos heavily. The band’s debut was re-released thanks to this attention, and the album, “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” shot them to stardom, and became one of the most successful albums of the 90s. The band were continually praised for being unique and honest. Their single “Linger” was a hit, and a second album was soon being made. “No Need To Argue” was The Cranberries most successful album, and produced what is arguably their most well-known song, “Zombie”. The album was a more hard-hitting rock sound, and cemented their fan base, who have continued to be impressed by The Cranberries’ music. They have since released a greatest hits album, recorded solo and other projects and toured many times over the world.
