David Gray is an indie rock singer, songwriter and producer, born on 13 June 1968, in Manchester. He has been nominated for four Brit Awards. While still at college, he began playing in punk bands and experimented with poetic forms of writing. After his move to London, he was signed on by Hut Records in the United Kingdom and Carolina in the United States of America.
David Gray’s first two albums A Century Ends (1993) and Flesh (1994) made Gray popular in folk-rock circles but were not commercial successes. His trademark fiery vocals and dynamic performances gained him much popularity, especially in Ireland. An alternative music video program, No Disco showcased Gray’s work frequently which created quite a positive buzz in the audiences in Ireland. The next album Sell, Sell, Sell, was released in 1996, which introduced the blend that would later become his trademark, that of alternative rock, electronic, and folk genres, for the first time. But Gray did not get the acclaim his music needed. Live performances were his strongest point, which enabled him to build reputation.
He finally received critical acclaim and commercial successful with the release of his fourth album, White Ladder in 2000. It went into the Irish Top 30 and five of the soundtracks were featured in the movie This Year’s Love. The best-known songs from the album are; This Year’s Love, Sail Away, Babylon and Please Forgive Me. His next album ‘A New Day at Midnight’ went number on the charts and was certified four times platinum.
In 2005, after a three year break, Gray released his seventh album ‘Life in Slow Motion’ garner positive reviews. After another hiatus, he released a compilation album Shine: The Best of The Early Days. In 2007, he performed with Damien Rice at the UK leg of Live Earth at the Wembley Stadium in London. Draw the line (2009), Foundling (2010) and Mutineers (2014) went on to increase his popularity in both Ireland and UK. He kept touring during these years which helped him in gaining wide spread fame. David Gray's Summer USA Tour 2015
David Gray’s Summer USA Tour officially kicked off on the 10th of July and will take place at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, California, with another show on the 13th of July. After Saratoga, he will continue to perform at the Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA. The next concert is at McMenamins Edgefield Amphitheatre in Troutdale, OR. Gray will perform his last concert of the tour at the Hollywood Bowl in Lon Angeles, California. The Summer USA Tour will be one of David Gray's most anticipated tours in years and David Gray is expected to perform in front of many sold out crowds. The Summer USA Tour 2015 will feature David Gray performing many of his top tracks off of his Mutineers album released in June 2014.
