When it comes to American R&B singers, there are few, if any, that have reached the heights of Diana Ross. Between her time with The Supremes and her lengthy solo career, Diana Ross has had countless hit singles. Even if you didn’t know who was singing it, it is almost guaranteed that you know at least one Diana Ross song.
Diana Ross was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1944. At the age of 15, she joined the female vocal group, the Primettes. In 1961, the group was signed to Motown Records and they changed their name to The Supremes. Although their 1962 debut record, Meet The Supremes, went largely unnoticed, The Supremes became a massive success with their 1964 sophomore release, Where Did Our Love Go. With three #1 singles (“Where Did Our Love Go”, “Baby Love”, and “Come See About Me), The Supremes introduced the Motown sound to the world and became an overnight sensation. The group continued to churn out hits during the 1960’s with more popular singles like “Stop In The Name Of Love”, “Back In My Arms Again”, “You Can’t Hurry Love”, and “Love Is Here and Now You’re Gone” among many others.
Diana Ross left The Supremes in 1970 and continued her prolific career as a solo artist. Her first full-length studio album, Diana Ross, was a success with the famous #1 single “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.” Throughout the next three decades, Diana Ross would continue to be a prolific artist, releasing a total of 22 solo albums! Although she is in her 70’s now, Diana Ross is still going strong, touring across the world every year to perform concerts for sold out crowds. After leaving The Supremes, Diana Ross also began acting, with her first role as the lead in Lady Sings the Blues. Diana Ross was praised for her performance and received a nomination for Best Actress at the 1973 Oscar Awards. Diana Ross has starred in four other films (Mahogany, The Wiz, Out of Darkness, and Double Platinum). Score with TicketCity - the place to go for Diana Ross Tickets.
