Dropkick Murphys are a Celtic punk band from Quincy Massachusetts that came together in 1996. Dropkick Murphys are best known for their high energy live shows, constant touring throughout the year, and their annual St. Patrick’s day shows in Boston. Dropkick Murphys’ debut album was titled Do or Die in 1998. The following year, Dropkick Murphys came out with their second studio album, The Gang’s All Here, which gained the band more notoriety from MTV for their single “10 Years of Service”.
In 2001, Dropkick Murphys released Sing Loud! Sing Proud! Which featured singles and music videos for “The Gauntlet”, “The Spicy McHaggis Jig” and “The Wild Rover”. Following the release of their album, Dropkick Murphys went on their biggest tour yet, recording three shows in Boston which resulted in their live album Live on St. Patrick’s Day from Boston, MA, released that same year. The following year, Dropkick Murphys put out Savin Hill, which included the song “Stand Up” featuring guest appearances by Ken Casey and Al Barr.
The band’s fourth album, Blackout, was released in 2003 and featured some of their most popular songs yet, including “Fields of Atherny”, “Walk Away”, and “The Dirty Glass”. Dropkick Murphys first big hit single was in 2004 with the song “Tessie”, which received extensive radio air play. Riding on the success of “Tessie”, Dropkick Murphys 2005 album The Warrior’s Code became their most popular record yet and featured the song “I’m Shipping Up to Boston” which went certified platinum.
In 2007, Dropkick Murphys started their own label Born & Bred and went on to release The Meanest of Times. The album debuted at the number 20 position on the Billboard charts and featured the hit single, “The State of Massachusetts”. In 2011, Dropkick Murphys had an even more successful album titled Going Out Of Style, which debuted at the number 6 position on the Billboard album charts. Dropkick Murphys’ 2013 record, Signed and Sealed in Blood, also charted high, debuting at the number 9 position on the Billboard charts.
