Kaskade is an electronic music producer and performer based out of San Francisco, California. With a career that started in the 90s, Kaskade, along with Deadmau5 and Skrillex, is one of the American DJs that has been influential in the transition of electronic music from underground to mainstream phenomenon. Voted Best American DJ by DJ Times in 2011 and 2013, and nominated for four grammys, Kaskade is one of the most popular DJs of the rising electronic dance music scene.Born Ryan Gary Raddon on February 25, 1971, Kaskade grew up immersed in the underground music scene in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Brigham Young University from 1989 to 1990, and followed it with a two year mission in Japan. Upon returning to the states, he transferred to the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah. There he met his wife, and fellow snowboarder, Naomi. While at the University of Utah, Kaskade ran a record store called Mechanized, which allowed him to acquire studio gear and start producing.
After graduating from University of Utah with a degree in communication, Kaskade moved to San Francisco with his wife. He immediately got a job working as an A&R assistant for the electronic music label OM Records, who he had previously sold a few tracks to before moving. Fortunately for Kaskade, San Francisco was a site of the emerging deep house movement. In 1995 he got his first regular DJ job on Monday nights at the basement venue Club Manhattan. In the early 2000s Kaskade began releasing music, starting with his first single “What I Say” in 2001. Since then he has released multiple albums, and countless singles, many of which have topped the Billboard Hot Dance charts. The name Kaskade came from a nature book describing how a waterfall cascades. A co-worker agreed that Kaskade would be a good name. Ryan stuck with Kaskade even though his wife worried that it might remind people of dishwasher detergent. Kaskade not only maintains a busy touring and recording schedule, but is also the director of A&R at OM Records. He lives with his wife and three daughters in San Francisco, California.
