The indie-electric pop trio Miike Snow has become one of the most popular acts on the electronica scene today. Formed in 2007 in Stockholm, Sweden, the original band members Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg worked as producers and teamed up with Andrew Wyatt in 2004 while mixing an album with American pop star Britney Spears. After working with accomplished artists like Madonna, Kylie Minogue and Ms. Dynamite, Miike Snow gained international exposure by winning the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording after mixing Spears' hit "Toxic."
After cutting their teeth working with some of the biggest names in the music industry, the group released their debut single "Animal" in 2009 and released a slew of promotional MP3s that increased their exposure around the world. The single would receive plenty of critical acclaim and would reach many new audiences after appearing on popular shows like Gossip Girl. The band's self-titled debut album also featured a remix of the Vampire Weekend song "The Kids Don't Stand a Chance," as well as many collaborations with dance pop and electronica artists from around the world.
Like many modern electronica acts, Miike Snow gained a following not by releasing full-scale albums, but by releasing small snippets here and there. In addition to being one of the best-selling artists on iTunes, Miike Snow made a name for themselves by performing at a wide range of dance pop festivals and then re-releasing concert tracks online. From the get-go, Miike Snow didn't have a clear plan in mind when they got together, as their chief aim was to make music with one another and enjoy the experience. However, with the runaway success of their first few singles and their stellar reputation as producers growing each year, it was only a matter of time before they became big players on the dance pop scene.
The band's second full-length album "Happy To You" was released in March 2012, and Miike Snow has already started to slowly release singles to build anticipation for the new record. The album has already broken into the Billboard 200 charts and is gaining traction on modern rock and pop stations alike. Miike Snow members are taking the new exposure in stride and plan to tour extensively to promote their new album. With an extensive press tour in America and the U.K. on the horizon, Miike Snow will be a consistent factor on the pop and electronica charts for the foreseeable future.
