TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB
Two Door Cinema Club has become one of the most successful indie rock bands to come out of Northern Ireland in recent memory. They combine a mixture of dance pop and post-punk influences to set themselves apart in a variety of genres. The band, consisting of Sam Halliday on lead guitar, Alex Trimble on rhythm guitar and lead vocals and Kevin Baird on bass, met in high school after finding similar musical tastes. The group's band got its name from a small cinema in their town called the Tudor Cinema Club, which Sam mistakenly called the Two Door Cinema Club in conversation. The name stuck, and the band has become a force in the indie rock scene.
After getting together in 2007, the guys skipped going to university to focus on songwriting and mixing for the new band. Thankfully, the group had the talent to begin to generate buzz in indie rock and alternative music circles, and soon released their debut EP, Four Words to Stand On. The single, "Something Good Can Work," was a huge hit in the U.K. and the band pursued an active touring schedule that took them all around Europe.
Two Door Cinema Club's first album, Tourist History, was released in the United States in 2010 and soon began to receive airplay on rock and alternative stations all over the country. While the singles "Undercover Martyn" and "I Can Talk" charted steadily throughout 2010 and late 2011, the band had its first breakaway radio hit with the single, "What You Know." The song peaked at No. 40 on the Billboard rock charts and helped to vastly grow the band's popularity throughout the United States.
Since the release of their debut album, Two Door Cinema Club has played major music festivals like Lollapalooza, Coachella, the Isle of Wight Festival and many other large events that have helped to expand their audience. The group is back in the studio working on a new album after taking a break from nearly three years of constant touring, and they will take a significant amount of time to focus on their sophomore effort. Until then, Two Door Cinema Club will be hitting the festival circuit throughout the United States and Europe and will be one of the hottest acts of 2012.
