J. Tillman, better known as Father John Misty, is an American folk singer and songwriter. Father John Misty, also plays guitar, drums, and a number of other instruments during his shows and on his records. Father John Misty started playing drums and guitar when he was 12 years old. When Father John Misty moved to Seattle and started opening for Damien Jurado, he would hand out CD-Rs containing tracks that would later become his album Long May You Run at shows. In 2006, Father John Misty, signed to independent music label, Fargo Records, and released his first solo album, Minor Works and the resissued I Will Return and Long May You Run as a two disc set. In 2007, Yer Bird Records released Father John Misty’s fourth album, Cancer and Delirium. Father John Misty released two albums in 2009, Vacilando Territory Blues and Year in The Kingdom, then in 2010, Father John Misty released yet another album, Singing Ax. In 2008, Father John Misty joined the Seattle band, Fleet Foxes, as their drummer, playing their final show with them in Tokyo in 2012. Later in 2012, Father John Misty released the album Fear Fun. Prior to the album’s release, Father John Misty put out a music video for the song, “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings”. In 2013, Father John Misty collaborated with rapper Kid Cudi, appearing on his album Indicud. In 2014, Father John Misty recorded the music for the soundtrack to a short film called The History of Caves, directed by his wife Emma Elizabeth Tillman. Father John Misty, released a holiday album later that year, titled New Winter, which met with outstanding reviews across most media outlets. The released featured five new tracks, including "Gesture I: Inoculation (Mother And Child)", "Gesture II: Feast Of Spirits", "Anacrusis Future Seed", "Naked Fire/The Fifth Season" and "Gemini". In 2015, Father John Misty toured extensively at venues local to the Seattle area as well as major music festivals all over the continental U.S. During his 2015 performances, Father John Misty played many of his fan favorite folk tacks such as “Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings” and others, however, the set lists were heavy on songs from his 2015 album I Love You, Honeybear. Father John Misty concerts are characteristic of his intimate folk singing and centered around the lyrical content and storytelling.
