Gladys Knight, often referred to as the Empress of Soul, is an American recording artist, songwriter, singer, as well as a businesswoman, humanitarian, and author. Gladys Knight is perhaps best known for her songs released in the 1960s and 1970s with Motown and Buddah Records, under which she recorded with Gladys Knight & The Pips. She was won seven Grammy Awards from the hundreds of songs she was released. With her band, Gladys Knight & The Pips, she recorded “Every Beat of My Heart” in 1961 with the tiny Atlanta Huntom label. Their follow up was “Letter Full of Tears” released in 1962.

In 1966, Gladys Knight & The Pips joined the ranks of Motown Records where they recorded their hit singles, “I Heard It Through The Grapevine”, “Friendship Train”, “I Don’t Want To Do Wrong”, and their Grammy Award winning song, “Neither One of Us (Wants to be the first to say goodbye)”. Their career with Motown records was regarded as highly successful and the band performed alongside many other big name artists of the time, including Diana Ross. In 1973, Gladys Knight & The Pips left Motown Records to pursue a better deal with Buddah Records. That same year, the band released their Grammy Award winning song, “Midnight Train to Georgia” and the number one hit songs, “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me” and “I’ve Got to Use my Imagination”. During the height of their career, Gladys Knight made her motion picture debut in a film titled Pipe Dream, for which she received a Golden Globe for Best New Actress. Gladys Knight began recording separately, releasing Miss Gladys Knight in 1978 and Gladys Knight in 1979.

In 1980, Gladys Knight & The Pips signed to Columbia Records and began recording new material, including About Love, released in 1980 and Touch released in 1981. The band’s final record was released in 1987 titled All Out Love, which featured their hit song, “Love Overboard”, before Gladys Knight eventually left the band to pursue a solo career full time. Gladys Knight’s solo LP titled Good Woman was released in 1991 on MCA Records, which became the number one record on the R&B album chart. Her follow up solo album was titled Just For You in 1995, which went gold and won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. Don’t miss your chance to get tickets to the next Gladys Knight concert.
