Godsmack is an alternative metal band from Lawrence, Massachusetts. Godsmack formed in 1995 with the members frontman Sully Erna, guitarist Tony Rombola, bassist Robbie Merrill, and drummer Shannon Larkin. Godsmack has released consecutive number one hit songs and albums, including 20 top ten rock radio hits and 15 songs in the top five. Within the first 10 years of their formation, Godsmack has sold over 20 million records. The original name of the band was The Scam, however, after recording their first demo, they decided to change their name to Godsmack. The band’s debut album was recorded in 1996 titled All Wound Up. Godsmack toured in the Boston area in support of their new album and their hit single from the record, “Keep Away” received local radio play. Godsmack signed to Universal record in 1998 and their first album All Wound Up was re-mastered and re-released. Godsmack later released a self-titled album which would go multi-platinum and began to tour extensively on The Godsmack Tour with Jim Rose Circus opening for them.
Godsmack also performed at Ozzfest, Woodstock ’99, as well as a tour in Europse with Black Sabbath. In 2000, Godsmack recorded and released Awake, debuting on the number 5 position on the Billboard top 200 album charts. The album would go double platinum and win the band a Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In 2003, Godsmack releasd Faceless, debuting at the number one position on Billboard’s Top 200 album charts. The band embarked upon a massive US and Europe tour in support of the album’s release. A single from Faceless titled “Straight Out of Love” received and Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance.
The band’s 2004 record, The Other Side, was an acoustic EP debuting at the number five postion on the Billvoard album charts. In 2006, Godsmack released their fourth studio album titled IV, which went certified gold, and toured heavily supporting it. Godsmack’s 2008 album was titled The Oracle, debuting at the number one spot and selling over 117,000 copies in just the first week. The band’s 2014 album, titled 1000hp, was released in 2014. Godsmack Tour - 2015
In 2015, Godsmack performed at rock and metal festivals all over the US and in Europe. Although the tour was in support of their 2014 released album titled 1000hp, Godsmack played many of their hit songs from their entire career, including their Grammy Award nominated songs and songs from their 2014 album. Godsmack shows are characteristic of their heavy breakdowns, melodic guitars, and high energy instrumentals.
