Few bands have experienced the longevity or had the impact on music as the Grateful Dead. The Grateful Dead formed in 1965 in Palo Alto, California and have risen to become rock and roll legends. The founding members of the Grateful Dead include Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir, Ron McKernan, Phil Lesh, and Bill Kreutzmann. The band achieved major success with their 2nd studio album titled Anthem of the Sun. Anthem of the Sun is often considered one of the best rock albums ever recorded and helped turn the Grateful Dead into one of the iconic bands to come out of the 1960’s counterculture movement. The Grateful Dead would go on to write iconic albums like American Beauty, Working Man’s Dead, Live/Dead, Reckoning, and Aoxomoxoa. Overall, Grateful Dead wrote more than 20 studio albums, with their latest work, Without a Net being released in 1990. Grateful Dead are known for a few iconic images and artwork including the Dancing Bears, Skull and roses, Jester, and Dancing terrapins. Fans of the Grateful Dead are often referred to as “Deadheads,” and are among the most passionate in all of rock and roll. In 1994, the Grateful Dead were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 2015 marks the 50th anniversary of Grateful Dead and brought the band back together for their first shows since 1995.
Grateful Dead 50th Anniversary Reunion;
In late 2014 rumors began to fly around of a reunion tour for the Grateful Dead’s 50th anniversary. Grateful Dead founders Bob Weir and Phil Lesh had been playing in another band by the name of Further, but that band called it quits in 2014, opening the door for the Grateful Dead to return to the stage in 2015. In early January 2015, it was announced that the surviving 4 core members of the Grateful Dead, Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Michey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann would join back together in 4 50th anniversary reunion shows taking place at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The announcement sent ripples through the rock and roll world and demand for Grateful Dead tickets shot through the roof. Seeing the band back together again, on 4th of July weekend 2015 will go down as one of the top rock events of the year and will be a must attend for all Deadheads.
