Trumpet player Chris Botti’s formula for blending jazz and pop tunes has allowed him to share the stage with diverse acts, from the legendary Frank Sinatra to folk-rocker Paul Simon and country superstar Vince Gill. Chris Botti took up the trumpet at the age of ten and by high school was playing professionally in his native Oregon. A student of jazz impresario Miles Davis, Chris Botti relocated to New York, where five years later, in 1995, he cut his first solo record. After two more records, Botti had yet to find commercial success, but the critics took notice, appreciating his obvious talent for creating a jazz, pop, and indie arthouse sound that kept him out of the soft jazz Muzak bin. Then, a 1997 tour with Sting gave Chris Botti deep insight into his music and allowed him to create a fused sound that both jazz aficionados and pop fans could get behind. Abandoning the synthesized tools of the pop trade, Botti brought in an orchestra to back him on his 2004 release When I Fall in Love, and this new approach paid off. When I Fall in Love became the first of four straight studio albums to hit number one on the US Jazz charts and crack the Top 40 on the pop charts.

Chris Botti's 2013 album, Impressions, which featured selections from the Great American Songbook like Gershwin’s Summertime and Over the Rainbow, as well as contemporary tunes from R. Kelly and Randy Newman, earned him his first Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Album despite reaching only number thirty-two on the Billboard 200. Chis Botti’s inspired trumpet playing has introduced pop-induced fans to a lyrical style of jazz and a reworked collection of American standards that proves good music never goes out of style. Chris Botti Tour Information

Chris Botti 2015 Tourr

Chris Botti has gone from backing legendary performers like Frank Sinatra and Buddy Rich on tour to staging his own tour with a plethora of top-flight musicians and singers. His band moves effortlessly between rock and pop to age-old swing, repeatedly giving old standards new life. His 2015 tour, which sees him playing places as far apart as Madison Square Garden and Mesa, Arizona, offers the sort of musical surprises the trumpeter’s fans expect. Certain tunes on Chris Bottis set list, like the torch song My Funny Valentine, are natural fits for jazz, while others, like the music of Burt Bacharach, lend themselves to swinging jazz remakes, but then there are those that require a great deal of inventiveness. Yet, Chris Botti and his talented band pull it. Ticketholders are likely to fall in love with his interpretation of Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir, in large part because of the beautiful, Diana-Ross-like voice of vocalist Sy Smith. Chris Botti’s ability to find new ways to capture the essence of familiar, popular songs and remake them into flawless jazz melodies is what keeps many fans returning to his live shows, and they’re not going be disappointed by what they hear on his 2015 tour.
