Jimmy Eat World is one of the most prominent and influential artists in alternative rock for the last 20+ years. The band was formed in Mesa, Arizona in 1993 by guitarist/vocalist Jim Adkins, drummer Zach Lind, guitarist/vocalist Tom Linton, and bassist Mitch Porter. Jimmy Eat World’s name comes from a drawing made after an argument by Linton’s younger brothers, Jim and Ed. Ed made a drawing of Jim eating the world that the band liked, and after less than 15 minutes of discussion around Lind’s parents’ kitchen table, the band name was decided.

In 1994 Jimmy Eat World released their debut-self titled album, which featured Linton on lead vocals. Between their debut album and several single releases, the band would start to gain attention from A&R reps, and would sign with Capitol Records in 1995. Prior to recording their debut major label album, Mitch Porter would leave the band and be replaced by Rick Burch on bass. Jimmy Eat World’s first release on Capitol Records was Static Prevails, which failed to receive any commercial success. Their second studio album, Clarity, was the first album to feature mainly Adkins on lead vocals while Linton turned his focus more towards guitar and backing vocals. Clarity featured the single, “Lucky Denver Mint”, which became known after being featured in the movie, Never Been Kissed. While Clarity was considered unsuccessful at the time, it would go on to earn critical acclaim over the years.

After Clarity, Jimmy Eat World were dropped from Capitol Records. Instead of searching for another record label, the band decided to fund their next album on their own. The album would become Bleed American and featured the hit singles, “The Middle,” “Sweetness”, and “Bleed American.” Bleed American has been certified Platinum and is the band’s most successful album to date. After touring extensively in support of Bleed American, Jimmy Eat World would go on to record and release the album Futures, which featured the singles, “Pain” and “Work.” Futures would go on to be certified Gold, and a year after the album’s release the band released their EP, Stay on My Side Tonight.

In 2007 Jimmy Eat World released their album, Chase This Light, which featured their singles “Big Casino” and “Always Be.” In 2009 the band did a ten-year anniversary tour for their album Clarity, where the played the album in full. The band would release their seventh studio album, Invented, in 2010 and their eighth studio album, Damage, in 2013. Jimmy Eat World are expected to release their ninth album and tour in late 2016.
