M83 is a synthpop band that is originally from France. The brainchild of lead man Anthony Gonzalez, M83 formed in 2001 as a two member band with Nicolas Fromageau. M83 released their first album in 2001, which did not garner much attention outside of Gonzalez’s home country of France. The band’s first major hit came a few years later with their 2nd major album titled Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts. The album reached North America and received positive reviews. Following the release, M83 embarked on their first major world tour to support the album. Dead Cities, Red Seas, & Lost Ghosts included singles “Run into Flowers,” and “America.” M83 continued their rise with their 2nd studio album titled Before the Dawn Heals Us. By the release of Before the Dawn Heals Us, Gonzalez and M83 had found their sound which encapsulated the fantastical inside the curtain of one of the largest sounds of this generation.
M83’s mainstream breakthrough came after the release of their 2008 album Saturdays = Youth. Saturdays = Youth brought M83 to more audiences than ever before and included hits like “We Own the Sky,” “Kim & Jessie,” and “Couleurs.” The album saw the introduction of Morgan Kibby to the band, who brought with her, her talent on the keyboard and songwriting ability. Together Kibby and Gonzalez teamed up to tour around the world, in what would become one of the most exciting live performances on the concert circuit. In 2011, M83 released Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. The double album would see M83 at their very best, and brought the band to its highest level yet, with songs played on radio stations around the country, and critical acclaim. M83 tickets have increased in demand with each new release, and the band has transformed into one of the most unique and exciting group of performers in the world.
