Seattle-based white rapper Macklemore, born Ben Haggerty, landed onto the hip-hop scene in a big way with a song about “popping tags” at a thrift shop. He began his career as Professor Macklemore recording and self-distributing his first EP titled Open Your Eyes in 2000. Macklemore was becoming a Seattle hip-hop fixture and his shows began selling out. In 2005 he released The Language of My World featuring the song “White Privilege,” in which Macklemore illuminates his success in a predominantly black genre. In 2009, he released The Unplanned Mixtape comprising of the songs “The Town,” “And We Danced,” which features the recreation of David Bowie’s fictional character, Ziggy Stardust. In 2010, Macklemore collaborated with Ryan Lewis and together they released the EP VS., with the critically acclaimed song about drug abuse, “Otherside.” The duo released The Heist in 2012, with a world tour to follow. Songs like “Cant Hold Us,” “Thrift Shop,” and “Same Love” brought these artists to mainstream music. Ticketcity can get you to this highly anticipated tour!
