Major Lazer is an electronic dance music duo founded by producers Diplo and Switch. While Switch left Major Lazer in 2011, Diplo was joined by Jillionaire and Walshy Fire. Major Lazer’s music doesn’t fit into one particular genre and they’re known to play a variety of music style during their live performances, including EDM, reggae, dancehall, electronic, reggaeton, house, moombahton, trap, hip-hop, and more. After working with M.I.A., Diplo and Switch made their debut as Major Lazer with their first album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do, released in 200 with Downtown Records and recorded in Jamaica. The record featured guest appearances from well-known vocalists including Santigold, Vvbz, Ward 21, Busy Signal, Nina Sky, Amanda Blank, Mr. Vegas, Turbulence, Mapei, T.O.K. and many others with Afrojack and Crookers as guest producers. The album was well-received, with the music video for Major Lazer’s lead single “Hold the Line” winning an MTV Video Music Award for Breakthrough Video.

Major Lazer went on to perform at some of the biggest music festivals that year, including Coachella Music Festival, Pitchfork Music Festival, Sasquatch Music Festival, Outside Lands, and many more. From that point on, Major Lazer because a staple at major music festivals every year. Major Lazer has collaborated with a variety of popular and underground artists over the years, including Snoop Dogg, Boaz van de Beatz, Rita Ora, La Roux, No Doubt, and many more, often doing guest producing for other’s songs and vice versa.

In 2013, Major Lazer released their album Free the Universe and embarked upon the Free The Universe World Tour. At the 2015 Gr4ammy Awqards, Diplo announced Major Lazer’s third album would be titled Peace is the Mission and feature artists like Arianda Grande, Elli Gouling, and Pusha T. Their lead single was “Lean On”, on which they collaborated with DJ Snake. Major Lazer later released Peace is the Mission: Extended, followed by their fourth studio album, Music is the Weapon, in 2016. In 2016, Major Lazer performed at nightclubs and music festivals around the world, including Rock am Ring in Germany, Pinkpop Festival in Netherlands, Shaky Beats Music Festival in Atlanta, Firefly Music Festival in Delaware, Parklife Featival in United Kingdom, Electric Forest in Michigan, and many more. During their live sets 2016, Major Lazer played a wide varied of songs from their own albums as well as other artists, such as “Lean On”, “Febreeze”, “Get Low”, and many more. Major Lazer live shows are characteristic of their high energy stage presence, dance performances, and their eclectic musical style.
