Born August 12, 1949, Mark Knopfler is a British guitarist, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Knopfler is also a film score composer. In 1977, along with his brother, David Knopfler, he starred in a band they started, Dire Straits. Knopfler was the lead guitarist, singer, and composer back then as well. The band disbanded in 1995. Between that period, he recorded and produced many solo albums as well. He produced and composed film scores for eight films. They include Local Hero (1983), Cal (1984), The Princess Bribe (1987), and the Wag Dog (1997). Knopfler worked with several artists from 1877 till 1995. They include James Taylor, Sting, Steely Dan, Van Morrison, Sonny Landerth, Jools Holland, Emmylou Harris, George Jones, Bryan Ferry, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, the Chieftains, and more. Knofler produced many albums for several artists as well, including Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, and even Randy Newman. In 1996, Knopfler officially started his solo career. In 1997, Mark Knopfler released the soundtrack for Wag Dog. In 2000, he released yet another album, Sailing to Philadelphia. This album has been his most successful one till date. In 2002, he performed in four concerts for charity with his former band members. In the same year, he also produced his new album, The Ragpicker’s Dream. In 2004, he released another album called Shangri-La. Knopfler released his fifth solo album in 2007 followed by more in 2008, 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014. An official announcement was made that in early 2015, his new album Tracker will be released, and during the middle of the year, he will tour. One of the greatest achievements he has received includes being ranked 27th on Rolling Stone’s magazine list for 100 Greatest Guitarists of all Time. Including those with Dire Straits, Knopfler has sold over 120 million copies. Other achievements for Mark Knopfler include winning a Grammy four times, receiving the Ivor Novello Award, Steiger Award, and the Edison Award. Mark Knopfler’s Tracker Tour 2015
