O.A.R., short for Of A Revolution, is an American rock band and jam band from Rockville, Maryland founded in 1996. O.A.R. consists of lead vocalists and guitarist Marc Roberge, drummer Chris Culos, guitarist Richard On, bassist Benj Gershman, and saxophonist and guitarist Jerry DePizzo. O.A.R. recorded their debut album, The Wanderer in 1997 at Gizmo Recording Company in Silver Spring, Maryland. Many of the songs from their debut album because staple of their live shows, including “Black Rock” and “That Was a Crazy Game of Poker”. In 1999, O.A.R. recorded their second studio album at Gizmo titled Soul’s Aflame.
O.A.R. relied on word of mouth promotion for their shows, playing extensively around Ohio State at the time. Their third album, Risen, debuted at the number 11 position on the Billboard internet charts. After the release of this album, O.A.R. received many offers from record labels and eventually signed to Lava Records. In 2005, O.A.R. recorded their fifth album titled Stories of Strangers. The album debuted at the number 40 position on the Billboard Top 200 albums charts and included the hit singles, “Love and Memories”, “Heard the World”, and “Lay Down”, which received significant radio air play. In 2006, O.A.R. reached a new milestone when they played to a sold out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City. O.A.R.’s sixth studio album was released in 2008, titled All Sides. This album included the band’s hit single, “Shattered (Turn the Car Around)”, which received significant air time on VH1, MTV, and national radio stations.
O.A.R. toured extensively in support of the release of this album which subsequently produced their live album, Rain or Shine in 2010. O.A.R.’s seventh studio album titled King was released later in 2011, featuring the songs “Over and Over”, “Fire’ “Dangerous Connection” and “Gotta Live”. O.A.R. Tour – 2015
In 2015, O.A.R. toured extensively in venues of all shapes and sizes around North America. During O.A.R.’s live shows in 2015, they performed many songs from their 2014 album, The Rockvillie LP, however, they also played many fan favorite songs such as “Black Rock”, “Over and Over”, “Fire’ “Dangerous Connection”, “Gotta Live”, and many more. O.A.R. shows are characteristic of their rock and jam band influences, which often lead to improvising during concerts.
