Outkast is a hip-hop duo formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1992 composed of Andre 3000 and Big Boi. The critically acclaimed duo has seen plenty of commercial success and radio air play and helped popularize the dirty south style of hip-hop in the 90s. Outkast has sold over 25 million albums worldwide and received six Grammy Awards. In 1994, Outkast released their debut album, Southerplayalisticadilacmuzik. The single, “Player’s Ball” quickly gained popularity and reached the number one spot on Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks chart. Their debut album quickly went platinum and the group followed up with their 1996 album, ATLiens. This album was a bit more laid back than their first and featured dub and reggae influences, abandoning their former party hard personas. ATLiens hit the number two spot on Billboard’s Top 200 album chart and sold over 350,000 copies in the first two weeks. Outkast’s third album, Aquemini, was released in 1998 and also reached the number two spot on the Billboard album chart. Aquemini featured soul, trip hop, and electro influences in the groups music and featured some big name artists such as Raekwon, Slick Rick, and George Clinton. Outkast’s fourth album was titled Stankonia, released in 2000 and featuring hit singles like “B.O.B. (Bombs Over Baghdad)” and “Ms. Jackson”. This was the group’s first album to reach the number one position in the Billboard charts for both best album and number one single for “Ms. Jackson”. Outkast also won two Grammy Awards in 2001 for Best Rap Performance by a Duo for “Ms. Jackson” and Best Rap Album for Stankonia. In 2003, Outkast released the double album, Speakerboxxx / The Love Below. The double album was essentially one album from Outkast member Big Boi and one from Andre 3000 and included elements of hip-hop, funk, jazz, electro, and rock. The album produced many hits for Outkast, including “Hey Ya” and “The Way You Move”. In 2006, Outkast released the cult classic film Idlewild, featuring many of the duo’s new songs like “Mighty O” and also ranking in the number one position on the Billboard album charts. Outkast have since split up to pursue solo work only to reunite and perform on tours together. Don’t miss your chance to see Outkast perform live in concert.
