There are few American artists who combine the sheer musical talent and unrivaled soul of Alicia Keys, who has made waves ever since she hit the scene in 2001. The New York-born musician released Songs In A Minor that year and quickly took the music world by storm with the No. 1 hit, "Fallin.'" The album was an intriguing mix of classical piano, jazz and R&B with a dynamic blend of urban grooves that helped her instantly garner a wide audience. The record was certified platinum six times and won five awards at the 2002 Grammy Awards.

With such a dazzling opening album under her belt, Keys came back strong in 2003 with The Diary of Alicia Keys. The record was highlighted by the hit single "You Don't Know My Name," which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed in the top spot of the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for eight consecutive weeks. The album also yielded successful singles like "A Woman's Worth," "Diary" and "Karma."

After the runaway success of her first two albums, Keys tried her hand at acting, starring in films like "Smokin' Aces" and "The Nanny Diaries" in 2007, before following up with another hugely successful album, As I Am. Keys also scored a huge hit in 2009 with "Empire State of Mind," a collaborative effort with Jay-Z. In successive years, Alicia Keys worked on a variety of side projects and collaborated with a number of artists, while still finding the time to put care and effort into her own studio albums. The Element of Freedom was another huge success in 2009, while her highly anticipated Girl On Fire became a critically acclaimed album upon its release in 2012.
