Born as Tauheed Epps and originally known as Tity Boi and one half of the southern hip-hop duo Playaz Circle with fellow rapper Earl "Dolla Boy" Conyers, 2 Chainz has worked hard to become one of the biggest faces in hip-hop. Growing up in College Park, Georgia, not too far from downtown Atlanta, 2 Chainz's Southern roots have certainly informed his brand of hip-hop and laid the groundwork for his musical career. 2 Chainz was still a part of this group when he released his first mixtape dubbed Me Against The World in 2007, and continued to go through this format and collaborating with a series of artists over the course of the late 2000s. In 2010, he would release his second mixtape Me Against The World 2: Codeine Withdrawal and worked with DJ Teknikz and DJ Frank White to create one of the most unique release of the year. In 2011, the artist would be featured in a series of radio hits, including David Banner's "Yao Ming," Kanye West's "Mercy," Nicki Minaj's "Beez in the Trap" and many more.

As 2 Chainz paid his dues and worked with a variety of different artists on the hip-hop and R&B scene, he would soon capitalize on these opportunities when he signed with Def Jam Records in 2012. After releasing his first single, "No Lie," which would climb to No.24 on the Billboard Hot 100 and hit No.1 on a series of hip-hop charts, 2 Chainz's first official release, Based On A T.R.U. Story, would have significant momentum that would carry it to the top of the Billboard 200 and would hit that mark during its debut week. The album would also produce popular singles like "I'm Different," "Birthday Song," and "Yuck!" featuring Lil Wayne, all of which would break into the Billboard Hot 100.

Since the runaway success of his first studio album, 2 Chainz has made great strides in his musical career, which has lead to many critical accolades. Based On A T.R.U. Story was nominated for a 2013 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album, and his collaboration on Kanye West's "Mercy" netted him two more nominations. The artist also had a very strong showing at the 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards, where he brought home awards like Rookie of the Year, People's Champ Award and Reese's Perfect Combo, showcasing the excitement the music industry has for his upcoming releases.
