There are few more iconic rappers around today than Cordozar Calvin Broadus - more commonly known as Snoop Dogg. The smooth-talking California native has been among the most recognizable figures in the music industry since he burst on the scene in 1992 and has since become a cultural icon thanks to his foray into movies and television.

Snoop Dogg came from a troubled background, and spent time in jail for cocaine trafficking shortly after graduating from high school. For the next three years he spent time in and out of prison, but in the early 1990s he was discovered by Dr. Dre, who would prove to be one of the most influential forces behind his career.

After auditioning and being included on Dr. Dre's famous 1992 album The Chronic, Snoop released his own debut just a year later with 1993's Doggystyle. The album was an immediate success and it debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, selling more than 800,000 copies in its first week. The record includes some of the most popular hip hop tracks of the '90s including "Who Am I (What's My Name)?" and "Gin and Juice."

Despite the success of Doggystyle, Snoop became embroiled in a legal battle surrounding the death of Philip Woldemariam. However, he was acquitted of murder in 1996 and soon released his second album, Tha Doggfather, later that year. Like its predecessor, the record debuted at number one and eventually became certified double platinum.

Soon after the release of Tha Doggfather, Snoop changed record labels and produced his third album, Da Game Is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told, which hit stores in 1998 and debuted at number one as well. He released two more albums by the year 2000.

Since the turn of the century, Snoop has broken into the mainstream and has collaborated with such eclectic acts as Pharrell, Justin Timberlake and Katy Perry. He has also appeared in numerous films and television shows over the last 15 years, including beloved movies such as Training Day and Old School as well as the critically acclaimed series Weeds.

His most recent original album, Malice in Wonderland, was released in December 2009, and received generally favorable reviews. It debuted at number 23 on the Billboard charts proving there's still some bite left in this dog.
