Rise Against was formed in 1999 originally under the name Transistor Revolt. They changed their name to Rise Against upon the 2001 release of their first album The Unraveling. In 2003 they released their second album Revolutions Per Minute, and toured extensively to promote their first two albums, including a 2003 appearance on the Warped Tour. In 2003 the band signed with Geffen Records, and released Siren Song of the Counter Culture in August of 2004, their first major label release. This album was Rise Against’s first album to crack the Billboard 200 and was certified gold. Following the release of the album, they went on an international tour featuring opening dates with many major acts. Rise Against went on their first official headlining tour in 2007 to support the June 4, 2006 release of The Sufferer & the Witness.
In 2011, Rise Against released their sixth studio album on March 15. This was the band’s first number one album on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. They followed the release of their sixth album with an international tour spanning multiple cities. 2014 featured the release of Rise Against’s seventh album, The Black Market. Rise Against supports the animal rights group PETA, and each member is a vegetarian. They also support the Democrats, including the Democratic candidates during the 2004 and 2008 elections. They also endorse Vans shoes. Recent albums have featured lyrics in support of various causes, including their stance on homophobia.
Rise Against The Black Market Tour
On September 15, 2014 Rise Against released their seventh studio album, The Black Market. Prior to the release of the album, the band released the single “I Don’t Want to be Here Anymore”. The album became Rise Against’s second number one album on the Billboard Top Rock Albums Chart. Following the release of their album, Rise Against announced a summer tour with Killswitch Engage and letlive. The tour stared July 17 in Chicago, Illinois, and finished August 16 in Denver, Colorado. The North America tour consisted of dates across the U.S. and Canada. Rise Against followed their summer tour with dates in Europe and additional dates in North America. The current touring lineup for Rise Against includes original members Tim McIlrath on guitar and vocals and Joe Principe on bass, as well as Zach Blair on lead guitar and Brandon Barnes on the drums.
