Emerging out of the indie rock explosion of the mid 2000s, the Cold War Kids have made a name for themselves as one of the best up-and-coming bands in the United States. With a trio of popular albums and long list of well-received singles, this quartet from Long Beach, California, has the goods to be around for a long time.

The Cold War Kids were formed in 2004 by four friends, Nathan Willett, Jonnie Russell, Matt Maust and Matt Aveiro. After some self-planned touring and several EPs, the band got serious in 2006 and released its debut album, Robbers & Cowards. While it gained little mainstream attention, the record was a favorite among critics and managed to get into the top 20 on the independent album charts. It included a number of fan favorite singles such as "Hang Me Up to Dry" and "We Used to Vacation."

In support of the Robbers & Cowards, the Cold War Kids toured extensively throughout much of the next couple years, but returned to the studio soon after wrapping up. The result was 2008's Loyalty to Loyalty. Although it did not receive the same critical response as its predecessor, the album was more of a commercial success. It peaked at number three on the independent album charts, and had a respectable showing on the Billboard 200 chart as well, topping out at 21.

After Loyalty to Loyalty, the band headlined a tour with famed indie band Death Cab for Cutie. Despite touring, the group still managed to churn out a four-song EP, Behave Yourself, which was available to fans on iTunes toward the end of 2009. Though small, the record included several memorable singles including "Audience" and "Coffee Spoon," and was an indication to fans and critics of what was to come next.

The Cold War Kids released their most recent album, Mine Is Yours, in January 2011. Unlike their first two projects, the record was a hit with both critics and fans. Paced by the tunes "Royal Blues," "Sensitive Kid" and "Flying Upside Down," the album once again peaked at 21 on the Billboard 200 charts, signaling the band's appeal to not only the niche indie crowd, but a growing number of mainstream music listeners as well.
