Yes is the name of an English rock band that was formed in 1968 by singer Jon Anderson and bassist Chris Squire. Yes rose to notoriety in the 70s with their unique style of progressive and symphonic music. They are perhaps best known for their use of mystical and cosmic lyrics, live stage sets and lengthy compositions with complex instrumental and vocal arrangements. Yes has sold more than 13.5 million records in the US alone.

Prior to forming Yes, Chris Squire and guitarist Peter Banks were both in the band The Syn as well as Mabel Greer’s Toyshop. When drummer Bill Bruford joined the band, they changed their name to Yes. Together, the band released 22 studio albums and 14 live albums from 1969 to 2016. Yes’ debut self-titled albums came out in 1969 and was received as a very creative record at the time of its release. The following year, Yes released Time and a Word. In 1971, Yes released two studio albums, The Yes Album and Fragile, which were both successful for the band. Their album Close to the Edge was released in 1972, followed by Tales from the Topographic Oceans in 1973. Then, in 1977, Yes released their first album in 4 years, Going for the One. 1978 saw the release of Yes’ album Tormato, followed by Drama in 1980.

In 1983, the band came out with their album 90125, the zip code of where they were living in California at the time, followed by the album Big Generator in 1987. Yes saw continued success well into the 90s with the release of Union in 1991, Talk in 1994, Keys to Ascension in 1996 and Keys to Ascension 2 in 1997 as well as Open Your Eyes in 1997. Yes released their albums The Ladder in 1991 and Magnification in 2001 before breaking up, only to get back together to record Fly from Here in 2011 and finally Heaven & Earth in 2014.
