Before 2007, angel-voiced pianist Sara Bareilles toiled in relative obscurity for several years following her graduation from UCLA. However, since the release of her smash hit "Love Song" that year, Bareilles is one of a handful of up-and-coming singer-songwriters making a name for themselves, garnering significant airplay on radios and television.

Bareilles grew up in California, and began performing at a young age. Along with being a standout in her high school's choir, she earned roles in several local musical productions. Her flair for music continued when she entered UCLA, as she became a member of one of the school's most famous a cappella groups. For several years after her graduation in 2002, she performed at local establishments, eventually working her way up to larger venues.

Her debut album, Careful Confessions, was released in early 2004 and quickly led to her getting signed to a contract with Epic Records. After signing, she began opening for a number of already established bands throughout 2005 and 2006, including Guster, James Blunt and Counting Crows. The increased exposure resulted in the release of her second album, Little Voice, in 2007.

The debut single off Little Voice was "Love Song," which became very popular after it was featured as an iTunes Single of the Week in June of that year. The song ended up being well received by both fans and critics alike, as it ended up reaching number one on the Billboard Pop 100 chart. It also earned the top spot on the adult contemporary charts as well. In addition to its chart success, the song was nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal and Song of the Year.

While the second single from Little Voice, "Bottle It Up," did not match the success and exposure of the first single, it was still featured in numerous TV shows and commercials. For much of the next two years, Barellies toured extensively, playing numerous college campuses, and also played shows with Maroon 5.

Barellies' most recent album, Kaleidoscope Heart, was released in September 2010 and has received positive reviews from music critics. In its first week of release, the album sold more than 90,000 copies to land it in first place - her first such album. The first single, "King of Anything," has been earning a growing amount of radio play. The song debuted at number 59 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts, making it her highest debuting single to date.
