Shinedown, an American rock band from Jacksonville Florida, was formed in 2001. Originally consisting of Brent Smith on vocals, Brad Stewart on Bass, Jasin Todd on guitar, and Barry Kerch on drums, the band underwent a few lineup changes before eventually settling on their current lineup. Along with original members Smith and Kerch, the current lineup includes Zach Myers on guitar and Eric Bass on bass and keyboards. The band has release five studio albums, including the September 18, 2015 release of Threat to Survival, and has had multiple singles with success on both the Billboard Rock and Hot 100 charts. Influenced by bands and artists such as Otis Redding, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, Stone Temple Pilots, and the Foo Fighters, Shinedown’s sound has been compared to the band Nickelback. This led to their signing by Atlantic records in the early 2000s. The band quickly released their first album, Leave a Whisper in 2003 behind their first single “Fly From the Inside”. The band went on tour supporting the album, opening for various acts across the country. Shinedown’s second effort, 2005’s Us and Them saw similar success.
Going into Shinedown’s third, and most successful, album the band’s lineup had changed to feature its current lineup with Zach Myers and Eric Bass. The Sound of Madness was released in June of 2008, and was produced with the help of Green Day producer Rob Cavallo. The three singles released from the album, “Devour”, “Sound of Madness”, and “Second Chance” showcased the band’s diversity and how their sound had matured from their previous albums. The successful release of the album also led to Shinedown’s first headline tour. The Sound of Madness was eventually certified Platinum by the RIAA with over one million units shipped. March 27, 2012 saw the release of Shinedown’s fourth album Amaryllis which featured the single “Bully”. Other singles from the album included “Adrenaline” and “Unity”. The album didn’t have the same success as The Sound of Madness, but it still debuted at number four on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold after it sold over 500,000 copies.
