Slayer is a thrash metal band formed in 1981 by guitarist Jeff Hannerman and singer Kerry King in from Huntington Park, California. Slayer is one of the Big Four thrash metal bands, including Metallica, Megadeath and Anthrax. Four of Slayer’s albums went certified gold and the band received a Grammy Awards in 2007 for their song “Eyes of the Insane” and 2008 for “Final Six”. Slayer also won two Kerrang! Awards, including the Kerrang! Hall of Fame Award in 2006 and Kerrang! Legend Award in 2013, the Metal Edge Reader’s Choice Award for War at the Warfield in 2003, and Metal Hammer Golden Gods Award in 2004 for Best Live Act. Slayer’s debut studio album was released in 1983, titled Show No Mercy, followed by Hell Awaits in 1985.

Slayer’s 1986 album, Reign in Blood, was one of their most popular and shot the band into the mainstream metal scene. After that, Slayer released their album South of Heaven in 1988 followed by Seasons in the Abyss in 1990, Divine Intervention in 1994, Undisputed Attitude in 1996, and one of their most popular and controversial albums, God Hates Us All in 2001. Into the 2000’s, Slayer had a huge following of dedicated fans, while their 2006 album Christ Illusion and 2009 album World Painted Blood were not as popular, Slayer’s 2015 album Repentless put the band back in the spotlight.

Slayer followed up the release of Repentless with a world tour in support of the album. Slayer’s live performances are characteristic of tremolo picking, double bass drumming, guitar riffs in irregular sales and Kerry King’s iconic vocal style. Slayer have announced their final tour, which will take place in summer 2018. The 2018 Slayer tour will kick off in San Diego in May and hit cities such as Los Angeles, Sacramento, Minneapolis, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Reading, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Orlando, Houston, and Dallas before coming to an end in Austin in June.
