Tears for Fears are a new wave pop rock band that was formed in England in 1981 by Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith. Their first album, The Hurting, was released in 1983 and featured the hit single, “Mad World.” The Hurting topped the charts around the world and would go on to be certified Gold in the US and Platinum in the UK. After their first album’s success, the band released more albums, including Big Chair, which included their highest-charting single, “Everybody Wants to Rule the World.” In 1989 Tears for Fears released, The Seeds of Love, which made it to the top 10 charts in the US and around the world.
In 1991 Tears for Fears split up after Orzabal and Smith decided to part ways. Orzabal tried to keep the band going, and continued to release albums under the name Tears for Fears, while Smith released a solo album in 1993. Tears for Fears would remain broken up until 2000, when Orzabal and Smith reunited and started working on a new album. The album, Everybody Loves a Happy Ending, signified the band’s return when it was released in 2004.
Tears for Fears have since toured the world sparingly. The band will be touring throughout the fall of 2016 and have revealed that they are planning on releasing a new album in 2017.
