Tenacious D Backstory
In 1997, HBO granted airtime to a pair of acoustic rockers nobody knew about. Comprised of two awkward musicians - Jack Black and Kyle Gass - the band known as Tenacious D went on to recruit millions of fans with their offbeat, crazy songs. They soon sold out massive venues, performed at music festivals and made their own movie. Tenacious D still stands as one of the last great comedy musical duos that made it before the internet and social media. Tenacious D’s origin story dates back to 1985, when the duo met as members of the Los Angeles-based theatre troupe, The Actors’ Gang. Dave Grohl, the frontman for Foo Fighters and former drummer for Nirvana and Queens of the Stone Age, played drums for all their studio albums, as well as a scene in their movie.
