Ever since the 1980s, Maná has been a Latin rock music icon with a career that spans three decades and has earned the group many honors that have increased the band's international profile. The band of brothers Ulises and Juan Diego Calleros, Alex González and Fher Olvera got off the ground in the small Mexican city of Guadalajara in 1986 and gained an underground following at home and abroad. During this time period, many American record companies were reaching out to young Spanish-speaking rockers to produce "rock en tu idioma" (Rock in Your Language). This movement helped build a groundswell of support for Maná, and they were signed to Polygram Records in 1987.

After creative struggles with their first record label, Maná released their first album in 1992 with Warner Music called "¿Dónde Jugarán los Niños?" The record sold three million copies internationally and is still the top-selling Spanish-language rock album in the world. The record would also manage to sell more than 500,000 albums in the United States, which is a major milestone in the rock espanol genre. In 1993, Maná toured extensively with a stunning 268 concerts in 17 countries including Chile, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.

The band followed up the whirlwind success of their first album by releasing Maná en Vivo in 1994. This double album captured the energy and improvisations of the live performances, as well as an extended group of acoustic sets. After a series of lineup changes and the release of their second album Suenos Liquidos, Maná achieved groundbreaking success with the album and performance that came with the groups MTV: Unplugged appearance. Maná received two Grammy Awards including Best Latin Pop Album for the show and firmly established themselves as one of the biggest Latin groups in the music industry.

Maná expanded its following with the 2002 album Revolucion de Amor, which blended many '60s and '70s rock elements into a compelling work that would win them their fourth Grammy Award. In the years that followed, albums like Amar es Combatir and Drama y Luiz would sell extremely well in the Latin community and keep the band near the top of the rock charts. With a hectic tour schedule that takes them across all parts of the Americas, Maná has created a truly international following and laid the groundwork for other rock espanol bands to follow in the future.
