Marco Antonio Muniz, popularly known by his stage name, Marc Anthony, was born on September 16, 1968. He is an American singer, record producer, actor, and television producer. Anthony is a five time Latin Grammy winner and a two time Grammy winner, who has sold over 12 million albums. He is mainly known for his Latin salsa and ballads. He has received many achievements and awards for his music. Not too long ago, Anthony received the CHCI Chair’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. In 1988, he first started his singing career as a session vocalist for underground New York house music acts and for freestyle. He later on started to work as a songwriter and backing vocalist for many pop acts such as the Latin Rascals and Menudo. He officially debuted himself with Bluedog Records, releasing his freestyle record, ‘Rebel’ in 1988. In 1989, he sang as a backup vocal for ‘With or Without You’ by Ann-Marie. Almost a year later, he wrote a duet with Louie Vega and Todd Terry. The duet was called, ‘You Should Know by Now’. In 1992 at Madison Square, NY, he opened for a Latin bandleader, Tito Puente, along with Vega. In 1995, he released another album, Todo a su tiempo, and won an award for Billboard Hot Tropical Artist of the Year. The album went on to be nominated for the Grammys while it sold 800,000 copies receiving a gold certification.
Marc Anthony’s next album, Contra La Coriente was followed by a concert at Madison Square which was aired on HBO in 2000. The track, ‘Y Hubo Alguien’ became his first single to reach rank number one on Billboard Hot Latin Tracks. The album became the first salsa album to have entered the English language Billboard 200 chart. In 2001, he once again released another salsa album titled Libre which also received gold certification. The album remained on number one for 14 weeks on the Billboard Top Latin Albums. In 2005, he received the Latin Grammy Award for his 2004 album, Amar Sin Mentiras, under best Latin Pop Album of The Year. His wife at-the-time, Jennifer Lopez performed with him at the Grammys in 2005. He continued to produce another Spanish hit in 2006. Anthony was inducted in the Billboard Latin Music Hall of Fame in 2012. In July 2013 he released another salsa album, 3.0, which received platinum certification. Marc Anthony’s Unido2 Tour
In 2015 Marc Anthony teamed up with fellow Latin Music superstar Carlos Vives on the Unido2 Tour 2015. The Unido2 Tour will feature both artists playing full sets in many of the shows, with Marc Anthony performing solo in a number of the tour's stops. Marc Anthony's Unido2 Tour runs from September 2015 through October, and will feature some of the biggest sets and crowds on any Marc Anothony tour to date.
