The England National Soccer team is one of the oldest national teams in soccer, competing in the first international soccer match in 1872 against Scotland. England National is controlled by The Football Association, the governing body for football (soccer) in England. England’s soccer team has had many showings in the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championship tournaments over their long history in the soccer world. In 1966, England National team won their first and only FIFA World Cup. Their win at the world cup was hosted by England in their home, Wembley Stadium, where they competed against West Germany, winning with a final score of 4-2. The closest that England has gotten to the World Cup since their win was in 1990 when they reached the semi-finals. England hasn’t been able to be the most successful international football nation, but some of the greatest players have come from the league, including Alan Shearer, Jimmy Greaves, David Beckham, Bobby Moore and Stuart Pearce.
