The festival scene in the United States has seen a great resurgence over the past decade, and the Bonnaroo Music Festival has played an enormous role in bringing the best artists from a variety of genres to one place. Held at the Great Stage Park which is a sprawling 700-acre farm in scenic Manchester, Tennessee, Bonnaroo began in 2002 and was inspired by other large-scale outdoor festivals put on in the past, like Coachella and similar events hosted by Phish. Without any major promotion, the first Bonnaroo sold out in nearly two weeks and has become the standard by which all summer festivals are measured.
Music takes center stage at Bonnaroo, and top former acts includes Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Phish, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, The Black Keys, Dave Matthews Band, The Allman Brothers Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers and many more. However, while music is certainly the focus at the festival, Bonnaroo has reinvented the conventional music festival and gave it its own unique twist.
Activity tents sprawl all over the grounds at Bonnaroo, where visitors have a chance to do a little shopping or enjoy a few recreational activities. Stop by The Academy in Planet Roo to participate in an art workshop, brush up on your gardening skills or join a music lesson. The Cinema Tent is a popular stop for those needing to escape the heat, and features special screenings by guest filmmakers and even Q&A sessions with musicians and comedians. Last but not least, check out the Centeroo Fountain and Market to explore the wares of hundreds of artists, craftsmen and vendors and pick up some souvenirs from the trip.
Bonnaroo offers fans the opportunity to stay in a hotel in Manchester, or, most fans opt to camp out in the scenic area around Great Stage Park. Attending Bonnaroo is one of the best experiences in music and is one of the best events every single year
Bonnaroo has been held at Great Stage Park since 2007 and features one of the only permanent main stages at any music festival in the country.
