ROCKSTAR ENERGY MAYHEM FESTIVAL
In the same mold as the Warped Tour and Lollapalooza, the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival has become one of the biggest summer tours in the United States since its debut in 2008. The festival is committed to metal and other hardcore punk bands, but over the years it has been home to progressive metal, nu metal, metalcore and other offspring of the original genre.
The festival is usually split into two side stages for up-and-coming and local bands and a main stage for the headliners. The show was put together by Kevin Lyman and John Reese, who achieved success with their work on the Warped Tour and Taste of Chaos tour. Ever since the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival became a summer institution, it has given a jumpstart to aspiring metal musicians and given fans a chance to see all their favorites in the same place.
The original lineup at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival consisted of SlipKnot, Disturbed, DragonForce and Mastodon, which is widely considered one of the best groupings in the event's history. The function gained serious buzz when SlipKnot signed on to perform, as they had been hard at work in the studio on an album and this was their big return to the concert stage.
Ever since its inception, the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival has been an amorphous process to put together, so no two experiences are ever the same. The 2009 show saw the appearance of Marilyn Manson, Slayer and Killswitch Engage, while the 2010 show expanded into Canada and also featured a bevy of comedic performances and variety shows. The 2011 festival featured the return of Disturbed, as well as heavy metal favorites Godsmack and Megadeth.
The 2012 concert is on the horizon and it already has metal fans all over the United States clamoring to get tickets. The headliners, Slipknot, Slayer and Motorhead will be joined by a stellar lineup of artists including As I Lay Dying, Asking Alexandria and The Devil Wears Prada. The tour will make a 27-date trek across America and will hit many of the most popular stops on the U.S. concert circuit.
Ever since the festival's first tour in 2008, the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Festival has steadily grown into the largest touring heavy metal music experience in the world. It is one of the highest-grossing tours each summer and looks to continue to enthrall metal audiences with an ever-changing list of talented performers.
