With its roots deep in the traditions of New Orleans, Voodoo Experience is an epic weekend of music, arts, culture and cuisine over the Halloween period - his year will run from October 27-29 - and it has the level of style and color you would expect from such a celebration. The festival has run annually since 1999, and has expanded to cover three days in an area of City Park specifically for the festival named City Park’s Festival Grounds. Over 65 artists will perform to crowds of over 100,000. The organizers have won awards for the festival, and were even given the key to the city after putting on a day of music after Hurricane Katrina, raising funds for the people who were so badly affected. They also organized a day of musical celebration for the emergency service personnel, National Guard, military and other relief workers who helped in the aftermath of the hurricane. The festival continues to bring tourism and money to the city, and it a true nod to the things that make the city so diverse and wonderful. There are three areas of the festival, and six stages in total. Le Flambeau is inspired by The Big Easy, Le Ritual is for more mainstream music and Le Carnival is for indie artists, burlesque and circus acts.
As well as the diverse music, there are areas in the festival for interactive art installations, The Angry Orchard Arcade - where you can play classic games such as skee ball and the claw crane - a winery and brewery, as well as plenty of places for sharing photos and entering competitions with the companies that are sponsoring the festival. Cuisine is a huge part of Southern culture, and the same is true at Voodoo. Any kind of food from New Orleans is here, and you will have a seriously hard time finding two vendors with the same flavors. Be sure to spend plenty of time making your picks! Ticket options go from 1-day admissions to 3-day passes and VIP tickets - which get you exclusive access to certain areas and some great extra fun experiences. Previous artists have included artists from diverse genres of music including; The Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Duran Duran, My Chemical Romance, 50 Cent, Kiss, R.E.M, Neil Young, Deadmau5 and Muse.
