The 2016 World Cup of Hockey is an international hockey tournament that brings eight teams together to compete for the international hockey championship. The teams participating in the 2016 World Cup of Hockey are: Team Canada, Team Czech Republic, Team Finland, Team Russia, Team Sweden, Team USA, Team Europe, and Team North America. The tournament will take place over two weeks, from September 17-October 1 at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto. The World Cup of Hockey is brought together by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL), in cooperation with the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). While the World Cup of Hockey takes place in Canada, World Cup of Hockey tickets are sold to fans across multiple continents.

2016 will be the third World Cup of Hockey tournament ever. The World Cup of Hockey was inaugurated in 1996 and was won by the United States. The second World Cup of Hockey was in 2004 and was won by Canada. This year’s World Cup will be different from the previous years as it will have two all-star teams, Team Europe, and Team North America, which consists of players under the age of 23.

2016 World Cup of Hockey Preview

The World Cup of Hockey tournament format consist of eight teams divided into two groups of four. Each team will compete in three tournament games within their assigned group in a round-robin format. The top two teams from each group will move on to a single-game semifinal. In the semifinal, the first-place team from each group will face the second-place team from the other group. Winners of the semifinal games will advance to the final series, where the team who wins the most games out of three takes home the championship.
