The Broward Center for the Performing Arts opened in 1991 and has served as a major entertainment hub for Ft. Lauderdale ever sense. The Au-Rene Theatre is the centerpiece of the complex, offering twenty-seven hundred seats for stage, opera, or concert events. The theatre's opening season featured the classic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera. It hosts regular performances from the Miami City Ballet.
