The Target Center is one of the largest venues in the NBA, sporting more than 20,000 seats on game days and is situated in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. After a brief spurt at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome during the Minnesota Timberwolves' expansion year, the Target Center became the team's primary home in 1990 and has become Minneapolis' primary sports and entertainment venue. Even though it is a bit older compared to other arenas in the league, the Target Center isn't short on world-class amenities and cutting edge improvements. The main lobby features the largest neon sculptures in the United States and the venue offers a wide selection of dining choices for attendees. The venue also boasts one of only two movable arena floors in the country which can be raised or lowered to suit different kinds of events.
After being the original home of the Los Angeles Lakers and two ABA teams, professional basketball finally came back to the Land of a Thousand Lakes in 1989. The team would struggle initially in its first few years with underwhelming draft picks and a tough schedule, but their fortunes changed in 1995 with the selection of forward Kevin Garnett. The T-Wolves would pair him with point guard Stephon Marbury to form one of the youngest, and most talented, tandem duos in the league.
The T-Wolves would make it to the playoffs in consecutive years from 1997 to 2004, largely because of Garnett's dominating presence in the paint. The team made it all the way to the conference finals in 2004, and after a competitive series, they fell to the Los Angeles Lakers in six games. In recent years, the T-Wolves have collected a number of young stars and look to return to postseason play in the coming years.
The Target Center is renowned for its versatility, as it can accommodate everything from bull riding competitions to large-scale musical events. The venue is a major stop on the American arena circuit and has hosted such popular tours as Muse' Resistance North American Arena Tour, Styx's United in Rock - Foreigner, Styx & Kansas tour and KISS' Alive 35 tour. If you don't mind the chill of Minneapolis during the winter or if you visit during a wonderful Minnesota summer, the Target Center is a fabulous venue where thrilling sporting events and unforgettable music acts are never in short supply.
