The Baltimore Orioles playoff history dates back to the 1940’s, when the franchise was known as the St. Louis Browns. After over 40 years of playing professional baseball, the Orioles made their first postseason appearance in the 1944 World Series. While the Orioles would lose their first postseason series to the Cardinals, the series would open the door for future success for the team. A decade later, the Browns would move to Baltimore and be renamed the Orioles.
In 1966 the Orioles appeared in their 2nd World Series, this time leaving no doubt who the best team in baseball was, beating the Dodgers 4 games to 0 to win the franchise’s first ever title. In the 5 years following that first title, the Orioles would go on to play in 3 World Series, including 1970, when the Orioles brought home their 2nd World Series title. The Baltimore Orioles would return to the World Series in 1983, winning a 3rd Fall Classic behind the stellar play of legendary 3rd baseman Cal Ripken Jr.
